Only halfway through the first round of the NHL playoffs and it’s already edge of your seat drama. Starting with, of course, PK Subban……
Well, a series that was supposed to be hotly contested and to have lots of bad blood to begin with, has gotten that and more with Montreal vs Ottawa. Two of the most passionate fan bases in Canada for their teams became an immense playoff rivalry and series just one game in. That is when PK Subban, an already well known and controversial player (controversial for his unique style of playing a defenseman) became controversial in another way when he slashed the wrist of an Ottawa player one game in and got ejected for the rest of the game. However, he was not suspended. This has created a lot of bad blood. Ottawa fans boo Subban whenever he touches the puck. It looks like Montreal will win the series, but the Ottawa fans likely will remember this for a long time.
Another hotly contested series is Vancouver vs Calgary. It was a series coming in that no one knew what to expect, and it has become a very physical series. While unfortunately there has been lots of fighting taking away from the actual hockey, it is nice to see Calgary who has been a floormat for the past decade and being absolutely awful, has a chance to win their first series in over a decade.
While Chicago is leading Nashville 3-1 and only needs to win 1 more game to advance its been an incredibly close series. Game 2 and 4 went to double and triple overtime respectively, and there is nothing like hockey overtime in sports. 20 minutes without commercials and it can end at any time.
And of course there is the St. Louis Blues vs the Minnesota Wild where once again St. Louis is about to blow another great regular season with very high postseason expectations.
