Alabama won another national title. Yawn. Next. The Wild Card weekend however, that was wild. Specifically the Steelers beating the Bengals. Or more accurately the Bengals beating the Bengals.
Bengals – What Happened?
What an absolute joke of a team. To have not 1 but 2 bonehead plays on the same play has possibly never happened before. First was Burfict headhunting Antonio Brown. To start with, the last few years have been all about the dangers of concussions, and there was just a movie released called Concussion about it. Players should know better now. And on top of that, this wasn’t just a one off thing for Burfict, he is absolutely out of control and had an even worse hit the week before against the Ravens. He has had countless dirty hits and attempts to injure others throughout his career and finally this time getting suspended for it.
And then there was Pacman Jones. You can’t shove an official for any reason. Especially in that circumstance. His penalty single handedly lost them the game most likely. Without his penalty it would’ve been a 50 yard field goal. So what if a Steeler assistant was provoking him? (Which he shouldn’t have been but he’s getting fined for that) You HAVE to control yourself there.
All of this comes down to coaching. Marvin Lewis has done some good things in Cincy, but you don’t see teams like the Steelers and Seahawks, who also play edgy on defense, make innexcusable mistakes like the Bengals did. You look at some of the players the Patriots have had like Legaret Blount who are under complete control in game when playing for them. It’s definitely possible. But not for Marvin Lewis somehow. Burfict is completely uncontrollable under Marvin Lewis. Think he would’ve gone head hunting under Bellichek? Marvin Lewis probably should’ve been fired.
The last time the Bengals won a playoff game was 25 years ago, and this likely was their worst loss in franchise history. Absolutely gave it away. And that’s why they are and always will be the Bungles.
