Well, today is the day. (Though hopefully for the Panthers there’s 1 more day after it) It’s the AFC and NFC championships. New England at Denver and Arizona at Carolina. And oddly enough both games have 2 completely different storylines.
In the AFC, the 2 qbs have combined for nearly 30 playoff wins. In the NFC, just 3. In the AFC, it is likely the last game between Brady and Manning, 2 of the greatest qbs of all time.
While in the NFC, it’s 2 young teams (though Arizona has some older stars). And for the games themselves, no one is giving Denver a chance. While for the NFC it’s a coin flip. (Or at least perceived as such).
Of course, most have dissected these games inside and out, so what else is going around the league? Well, Chip Kelly after getting fired by the Eagles got hired by San Francisco. And that is a disaster waiting to happen. SF fired Jim Harbaugh because they couldn’t get along with him and they somehow think Chip Kelly, who attempted a coup in Philadelphia, would actually work?
Then there is Cleveland who somehow managed to hit the jackpot (or at least first reaction) of a coach in Hue Jackson. He was by far the hottest commodity in coaches. Hope he works out for them.
And finally there is Tennessee…. They hired their interim coach Mularkey to the full time job who went 2-7 in the role and failed twice before at Buffalo and Jacksonville. In addition, this is perceived by some as weakening the power of the GM because it was more the owner fiddling with things than a sole decision by the GM. Makes me feel bad for Marcus Mariota to deal with that disfunction.
